Theme: Wearing the name of Christian
Object: A name tag ("my name is _______")
Scripture: "A good name is more desirable than great riches." (Proverbs 22:1)

Probably before you were born, your dad and mom were busy trying to decide what to name you. Sometimes moms and dads have trouble agreeing on a name.

Names have meaning. Did you know that? Here are some meanings I thought you might be interested in. My name, Sandra, is from the Greek language and means "mankind's helper." Darrel's name is from old English and means "beloved." (Look up the meanings of some of your children's ministry workers).

You might want to ask your mom and dad if they know what your name means. If they don?t know and you have a computer, you can easily find it on the internet. And there are lots of books published with name meanings in them.

Sometimes I go to an event where I have to wear a name tag. Have you ever had to do that? It says, "Hi, my name is . . ." and I fill in Sandy. I've been known to then leave the event and go to the grocery store, post office and other places still wearing my name tag!

The Bible tells us in Proverbs that it's important to have a good name. That doesn't mean a pretty name or an unusual name, it means that we should be the kind of person that when someone hears our name, they know us as a good, honest, hardworking, reliable person.

We can all have a good name when we take on the name "Christian." That name means "one who follows Christ" and there is no better name for us to have. It's a name we should all be proud to wear.

Here is a name tag for you. Write your good name on it.
