Sermon Title: "A Pinch of Salt"

Scripture Reading: Mark 9:49-50

SALT RELAY: Divide the children into two teams. Have each team form a long line and at the sound of GO, the person at the front of the line will pass a salt shaker to the person behind him. The children will alternate passing the salt shaker over their head and between their legs until the shaker reaches the last person in line. That person will then run to the front of the line and start passing the salt shaker the same way. Continue the game until all the players have been at the starting of the line to pass the shaker.

SALTY SCRIPTURE SCRAMBLE: The teacher will write today's memory verse on a poster board "Salt is good for seasoning. But if it loses its flavor, how do you make it salty again? You must have the qualities of salt among yourselves and live in peace with each other." Mark 9:50 (NLT) Leave a blank space for the following key words which will be written on separate pieces of paper and placed in a basket. (salt, seasoning, loses, flavor, salty, yourselves, live, peace) Call children to come up an draw a word from the basket and tape it into the space in the Bible verse where it belongs.

SALT SHAKER VERSE: Give each child an inexpensive plastic salt shaker from the Dollar Store and provide the Bible verse slip of paper that they can lightly color and tape around the salt shaker. Encourage the children to put their salt shaker on their own kitchen tables at home to remind them about adding flavor to their world with God's love.

PAPER BAG PUPPET: Give each child a paper bag to color and decorate to look like themselves. Add a thin layer of glue and let children sprinkle salt on the top of their bags as a reminder that they are to be the salt to the world. Have children write their name on the bag and write, "I AM CALLED TO BE THE SALT IN THE WORLD.

SALTED FALL LEAVES: Let children go on a nature walk if time allows to find some leaves for this craft. Otherwise, the teacher can have some leaves available for children to place a thin layer of glue on the leaves and sprinkle with salt. Tell the children how they can be salt of the earth and let others know of God's love. This would be fun for children to be able to do the leaf hunt and the salting outside in the fresh air!

SALTY WORLD: Give each child a picture of a world globe. Let the children color their world picture and add special places if desired. Then let them spread a thin layer of glue on that globe world and sprinkle salt on the world. Hang the "salted worlds" by yarn around the classroom!

COOKIE SNACK: Share the cookies that you have baked with the children for their snack. Remind the children that the cookie recipe called for a pinch of salt to enhance the sweetness of the cookies. Then remind them that we are also to be like a pinch of salt to our world to help reduce bitterness and bring peace.
