A Coat of Joy

Theme

God gives us joy

Object

Make a paper vest out of a grocery bag. Cut off the square bottom and cut half circles in the folded sides of the bags. This will be for the arms.

Scripture

You turned my wailing into dancing; you removed my sackcloth and clothed me with joy. Psalms 30:11

Today we are going to pretend that we have a coat that is made out of sad threads. These threads are things in our lives that made us unhappy or sad. I would like _____ to come up and wear the sad coat. (To the rest of the children), Can you tell me what makes you sad, and I will write it on the paper coat. (As the children tell you what makes them sad, write it on the coat filling up most of the paper.)

The Bible scripture today tells us that God will give us a coat of joy, (rip off the coat) and we will never have to wear a sad coat again.

Let us pray,

Heavenly Father,

We praise you and thank you for taking our sad coats away. You have given us a coat of joy that allows your love to shine through.

In Jesus’ precious name,

Amen
