Sermon Title: "Company Is Coming"

Scripture Reading: Luke 3:1-6

MOP RELAY: Divide the children into teams and give each team a mop. Play a relay with each team member taking turns to push a potato with a mop the finish line. Continue until all players have taken a turn.

CLEANING PANTOMIMES: Give each child an opportunity to do a pantomime for some kind of cleaning - such as dusting, vacuuming, mopping, or scrubbing. Let the other classmates try to guess what the activity is. If you wish, divide the class into teams and each team will pantomime a cleaning task for the other team to guess.

SPONGE ART: Give all children a small piece of a sponge to dip into tempera paints and make a drawing of a heart! Encourage the children to use the corner of the sponge to write their own initials on their painted hearts. (Provide wet wipes for dirty hands).

PREPARE YOUR HEART: Before class time, the teacher will use some colored chalk to scribble on a heart cutout. Give each child a heart and tell them they must clean off the heart. After the heart is clean, the children will use sequins, markers, or stickers to decorate the heart. Give the children cut out letters to glue to the hearts that will spell out J-E-S-U-S!

HOUSECLEANING: Provide the children with cleaning supplies and take pictures as they each take one cleaning supply and clean a designated area. Comment to the children how CLEAN the room is beginning to look in such a short time. As the children clean, tell them that when the whistle blows, they are to FREEZE at whatever they're doing and then the teacher will call on different children to give ideas about how we can clean up our hearts as well. After an answer is given, the children will begin to clean again until the whistle blows and continue to give ideas how to CLEAN our hearts!

HEART CHRISTMAS CARDS: Let the children fold a piece of colorful paper in half and cut a half a heart out on the fold, so that they'll end up with a heart card. Decorate and use Christmas stickers, etc, and then write I'LL GIVE JESUS MY CLEAN HEART FOR CHRISTMAS inside the heart and write their names on the card. Hang the colorful hearts on a string of Christmas garland on the classroom wall.

BIBLE VERSE SPONGES: Tape parts of the Bible verse to small pieces of sponge and hide them around a designated area. Let children find all the sponges and then place the sponges in the correct order on the classroom table, as they work together. After the class has completed putting the Bible verse together, have the children read the verse together several times and then begin taking a piece of sponge with sections of the Bible verse away and have the children recite the verse and see if they can fill in the part that is missing. Continue to play until all of the sponges have been removed and children can recite the verse from memory!

CLEAN HEART DISPLAY: Give the children hearts to cut out and color and write ways to clean our hearts—such as praying, forgiving others, and reading God's Word. Let the children tape or glue the hearts to a large poster board on the classroom wall as they complete each heart. Title the poster board with big colorful letters that say, I WANT A CLEAN HEART.

HIDE AND GO SNACK: The teacher will hide snacks around the room and as the children CLEAN the room during any of the above activities, they can enjoy a snack while cleaning! (The teacher will have to set a limit as to how many snacks each child can find and enjoy.)
