Sermon Title: "The Greatest"

Scripture Reading:John 1:6-9, 19-28

WHO'S THE GREATEST GAME TIME:

Let children take turns at doing something they think others might not be able to do or something that they feel they are good at. After each child does his GREAT stunt (hopping, skipping, jumping rope, bouncing ball, dancing, etc). all the children will shout - YOU'RE THE GREATEST!! Make sure every child gets an opportunity to play.

PERFORM AND CHEER:

Divide the children into small groups and the group will perform in front of the others for something they have decided to do as a group. Then encourage all the children to CHEER - clap, whistle, cheer!!

SING OFF:

Help each child to pick a song that he or she really enjoys from Sunday School songs, worship songs, choruses or Christmas carols. Tell children they will be part of the great SING OFF and sing a short part of their song. If a video camera is available, the children would enjoy watching their SING OFF songs as time allows. Tell children that they are "witnesses" of some very good singers, etc.

CANDLE WALK:

Guide children in a "candle walk" around a designated area or up and down some hallways while each carrying a battery operated candle if available. The teacher can then have the children sit in a circle and share our Bible story today about being witnesses to the LIGHT.

I SEE THE LIGHT:

Children can gather in a circle or sit in a designated area of the room. The teacher will be sneaky and flash a flashlight in different areas. Tell children to be watching for the LIGHT and to point quickly whenever they find it. The teacher can move the light around to the ceiling, the floor, to one side and then the other, or on someone's shirt, of shoes or on a Bible or a cross, etc.

CANDLE LIGHT:

Provide each child with an empty toilet paper roll, some construction paper to cut and wrap around the toilet paper roll and tape to the roll. Children can trace and cut out a yellow flame and tape to the top of the toilet paper roll. Before taping their cut out construction paper to the roll, encourage children to write words from our memory verse or Bible lesson today, such as witnesses to the Light, Jesus is the Greatest Light; Celebrate Jesus' birth, etc.

GREATEST GIFT:

Give children supplies to make an art drawing of construction paper, markers, cut outs of trees and hearts, stickers and glitter. Children can draw a triangle as a Christmas tree with a trunk and hearts... writing JESUS IS THE GREATEST GIFT, etc and hang around the classroom for the Christmas season.

SING A SONG:

THIS LITTLE LIGHT OF MINE

SHARE A SNACK:

Heart shaped cookies for children to frost and talk about GOD's love for us and JESUS being the greatest gift. Sprinkles are a MUST for these cookies!!
