Sermon Title: "Rules to Live By"

Scripture Reading: Mark 12:28-32

PAPER PLATE CRAFT: Cut out the middle section of a paper plate and then cut out a large number of red and pink or various colored hearts for the children to glue around the edges of the plate to form a border. Write the Bible verse on a heart and attach it to a piece of ribbon or yarn hanger to be suspended from the top of the plate so that it hangs in the center of the cutout area.

LOVE ACROSTIC: Write the word LOVE vertically on a chalkboard or poster board and have the children try to think of ideas of ways that they can "love the Lord with all your heart, mind, body and strength and love your neighbor as yourself" using the letters in the word LOVE!

HANDS HEARTS: Provide the children with various colors of sheets of construction paper, pencils or markers and scissors. Have the children trace two copies of their hands and cut them out. The children will then place the hands on another piece of construction paper with the thumbs and pointer fingers touching. This touching thumbs and pointing fingers will form a heart. Glue the hands on the paper and let children write "Love Your Neighbor" in the center of the heart. On each finger, write words that demonstrate loving your neighbor. Examples: Caring, helping, loving, sharing, giving, friendly, hugs, smiling, encourage, respect. Click here for an example of the finished craft.

LOVE GAME RULES: After discussing the rules of the game that was used by the teacher as the object during the lesson, discuss LOVE RULES that matter to Jesus. For example: going to Sunday School and Church, praying, telling others about Jesus, sharing what Jesus has done for us. Remind the children that the thing that is most important to Jesus is the way we treat other people.

LOVE TREATS: Heart-shaped cookies would be a nice treat for today's lesson.
