Today, we're going to solve a mystery together, but this one requires some serious detective work! I need six volunteers to be my mystery letter holders. (Have six children stand in a line holding cards face down.) Each of you has a letter that will spell out our mystery person's identity. But here's the challenge - I'm going to give you detailed clues, and I want everyone else to really think about what kind of person could have ALL these amazing qualities. Ready to use your detective skills?
Give me an F! F is for "FORGIVING." Think about this - when...

Instead, they help you learn from your mistakes and give you another chance. Why do you think forgiveness is so important in relationships? How does it feel when someone forgives you versus when they stay mad?
Give me an A! A is for "ATTENTIVE." This means more than just listening - it means really paying attention to what's important to you. When you're excited about something, worried about a test, or dealing with friend drama, this person puts down their phone, looks you in the eye, and focuses on YOU. In our busy world, why is having someone's full attention so valuable?
Give me a T! T is for "TEACHER." But not the kind who just tells you facts from a textbook. This person teaches you life skills - how to be honest even when it's hard, how to stand up for what's right, how to treat others with respect. They teach through their actions, showing you what integrity looks like in real life. Can you think of an important life lesson someone taught you by their example?
Give me an H! H is for "HELPFUL." When you're facing tough decisions - like whether to include someone who's being left out, or how to handle a difficult situation with friends - this person doesn't just solve your problems for you. They guide you to think through the consequences and help you make wise choices on your own. Why is it better to learn how to solve problems yourself rather than having someone else always fix things for you?
Give me an E! E is for "ENERGETIC." Even after a long, tiring day at work, this person finds energy to shoot hoops with you, help with that challenging math homework, or listen to you practice your presentation. Their love for you gives them strength even when they're exhausted. What does this tell you about real love?
Give me an R! R is for "READY." This person is always prepared to support you, encourage you, and be there when you need them most. Whether it's celebrating your victories or helping you through disappointments, they're consistently reliable. In a world where many things are uncertain, how important is it to have someone you can count on?
So who is our mystery person? A FATHER! Now, I know that families come in all different shapes and sizes. Some of you live with your dad, some visit him on weekends, some have stepdads or grandfathers who fill this role, and some may not have a father figure in your life right now. But here's the incredible truth - every single one of you has a Heavenly Father who perfectly demonstrates all these qualities and more.
Think about this: earthly fathers, even the best ones, are human and sometimes fall short. They get tired, make mistakes, or don't always know the right thing to say. But God, our Heavenly Father, is perfectly forgiving, always attentive, the ultimate teacher, constantly helpful, never runs out of energy, and is always ready to love and support us. The Bible tells us in Psalm 68:5 that God is "a father to the fatherless," which means He promises to be there for everyone, no matter what their family situation looks like.
Here's something to think about this week: How can you show appreciation for the father figures in your life? And how can you grow closer to your Heavenly Father, who loves you more than you can imagine?
Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of fathers and father figures in our lives. Help us to appreciate them and show our love through our words and actions. And thank You for being our perfect Heavenly Father, who is always there for us with unlimited love, patience, and guidance. Help us to trust in Your love and to grow closer to You each day. Amen.
