He Has Chosen Us!
God has chosen us to be his children. Yr. B
A soccer ball or some other team sport object
Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes. God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure. Ephesians 1:4-5 (NLT)

Do you like sports? What is your favorite sport? Baseball? Basketball? Soccer? Are you a good player? Not everyone is, you know. Today I want to tell you the story about a boy named Thomas.
Thomas looked up from his book as the teacher announced to the class, "It is time for recess and today, we are going to play softball. Jacob, you and Mary will be the team captains today."
"Oh no!" Thomas thought to himself, "that means that they will be choosing their teams and I will probably be one of the last one chosen -- as usual." As he stood with the other children on the playground, Thomas tried to pretend that it didn't bother him that one by one the other children were chosen and he was left behind. But, if the truth be known, it really hurt. "I wish that just once I could be the first one chosen" Thomas thought to himself.
I hope that this has never happened to you, but it probably has. It has happened to most of us. Surely there must be a better way to choose teams. I have an idea, why not have everyone stand in a line and number off 1-2-1-2-1-2 and then all of the ones could be on one team and all of the twos on the other. That way, no one would have to be the last one chosen.
Our Bible lesson today is about being chosen to be in the family of God. How would you like to be in God's family? Well, you can all be in God's family and you don't have to worry that you might be the last one chosen either. The Bible tells us that before he even made the world, God loved us and chose us. Before we were even born, God decided to adopt us into his own family.
Why would God want us to be in his family? Is it because we are so good and so wonderful? No, it is because HE is so good and so wonderful. We needed an eternal home, and he gave us a home in heaven. We needed someone to help us to grow and he is there to help us every day. We needed someone to love us and he loved us more than anyone ever could.
God has chosen us -- now it is up to us to say, "Yes." When we confess our sin and put our trust in Jesus, we become God's adopted children and he makes everything work out according to his plan for us. I am so glad that God chose me to be a part of his family, aren't you?
Dear Father, thank you for choosing us and for sending your Son so that we could be a part of your family. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
