Some valentines and a crude wooden cross

"Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends" (John 15:13).
This is the most beautiful valentine I have ever received. (Hold up the cross) I know it doesn't look like the colorful, sparkly valentines you might make or receive, but this cross is incredibly beautiful because it represents the greatest love story ever told - Jesus' love for each one of us.
Think about the people you love most in your life. Maybe it's your parents, your siblings, or your best friends. How do you show them you love them? You might give them hugs, write them notes, or spend time with them. But Jesus showed His love in the most...

The Bible tells us in John 15:13, "Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one's life for one's friends." Jesus didn't just say He loved us - He proved it by giving up His life on the cross.
Here's what makes this even more incredible: Jesus knew everything about us before He died for us. He knew every mistake we would make, every time we would disobey, every selfish thought we would have. But He chose to love us anyway. That's called unconditional love - love that doesn't depend on how good we are or what we do. It's the kind of love that says, "I love you no matter what."
Now, let me ask you something to think about: If someone loved you that much, how would you want to respond? If your best friend gave up something really important to help you, wouldn't you want to do something special for them in return? Jesus wants our love too, but not the kind that comes on paper with hearts and flowers. He wants us to give Him our hearts - our real hearts, our lives, our choices.
What does it look like to give Jesus a "valentine" with our lives? It means choosing to follow Him even when it's hard. It means being kind to someone who's mean to you because that's what Jesus would do. It means telling the truth even when lying might get you out of trouble. It means using your talents and abilities to help others and make the world a better place. It means praying and reading your Bible to get to know Jesus better, just like you would spend time with any friend you love.
Sometimes following Jesus might mean standing up for what's right when other kids are making fun of someone. Sometimes it means choosing to forgive someone who hurt your feelings. Sometimes it means being generous with your time, your toys, or your allowance when you see someone in need. These are all ways we can show Jesus we love Him back.
The amazing thing is that Jesus' love for us never runs out, never gets tired, and never gives up on us. Even when we mess up or make wrong choices, His love is still there. That's the kind of valentine that lasts forever - not just for one day in February, but every single day of our lives.
Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for loving us so much that you sent Jesus to die on the cross for our sins. Help us understand how amazing and deep your love really is. Jesus, thank you for being willing to give up your life for us. Help us show our love for you not just with words, but with our actions, our choices, and our whole lives. Give us courage to follow you even when it's difficult, and help us share your love with others around us. Amen.
