Support Your Team!

I am going to do something very brave. Are you ready. I hope you are not feeling as scared as I am right now. Are you ready. (Put on hat/scarf).

Question: Why was that a brave thing to do? (Go on to explain that some people don’t like the team I support and because of that they might get angry when they see me wearing their colours. They might shout angry words at me or even worse attack me and hurt me.

Now I’m going to do something even braver. Can anyone think what that might be? (Lift up cross.) What would this tell people about me if I carried this down the street? (That I am a Christian.)

Why is carrying a cross a brave thing to do? (Just like some people get angry when they see opposing team colours there are people who get angry when the see true Christians. It may be that the belong to another faith or even no faith at all. It is a sad fact that in several places in the world people even kill Christians simply because they believe in Jesus. Jesus knew it was going to happen. That is why he said, “Everyone will hate you because of me. But whoever holds out to the end will be saved.” That is why we must be prepared to hold up the cross and show we support team Jesus and will to right to the end of our lives.

Prayer: Lord God Almighty help us we pray to remain faithful to your Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ throughout our lives. Amen
