Have you ever read fantasy books like Harry Potter, The Chronicles of Narnia, or A Wrinkle in Time? What's amazing about these stories? The characters can travel through time or to magical places! Imagine if you had a time machine or a magic portal - where would you go? Maybe you'd visit ancient Egypt to see the pyramids being built, or travel to the future to see flying cars!
I was thinking about this recently, and I realized where I'd want to go most: back 2,000 years ago to walk with Jesus in person. Picture it - seeing him heal the...

That would be incredible, wouldn't it? But here's the thing - even though I can't actually do that, it doesn't change what I believe about Jesus. My faith isn't based on having to see something with my own eyes.
There's a fascinating story in the Bible about this exact issue. After Jesus died on the cross and rose from the dead, he appeared to his disciples multiple times. But one of his closest friends, Thomas, missed these appearances. When the other disciples excitedly told Thomas, "We've seen Jesus! He's alive!" Thomas basically said, "No way. I won't believe it unless I can touch the nail holes in his hands and put my hand in the wound in his side." Thomas wanted physical proof.
A week later, Jesus appeared again when Thomas was there. Jesus said to Thomas, "Go ahead - touch my hands and side. Stop doubting and believe!" Thomas immediately fell to his knees and declared, "My Lord and my God!" He didn't even need to touch Jesus - seeing was enough.
But here's what Jesus said next, and this is really important for us: "You believe because you have seen me. Blessed are those who believe without seeing me." That's talking about us! Jesus is saying we're actually blessed - we're fortunate and happy - because we can believe in him without having to see him physically.
Think about it: we believe in lots of things we can't see. We believe in gravity, even though we can't see the force itself - we just see its effects. We believe in love, even though we can't hold it in our hands - we see how it changes people. In the same way, we can see evidence of Jesus everywhere: in the Bible's historical accounts, in changed lives, in answered prayers, and in the peace and joy that faith brings.
Jesus is just as real today as he was 2,000 years ago. He's alive in our hearts, working in our world, and listening to our prayers. We don't need a time machine to have a relationship with him - we have something even better: faith that connects us to him right now, wherever we are.
