God has done exactly the same thing for us to help us build our life into what He wants us to be - just like following instructions to build something amazing! First, He gave us a picture to follow. He sent His Son, Jesus, to show us exactly how to live. Jesus didn't just tell people what to do - He showed them by His actions. When someone was hungry, Jesus fed them. When someone was sad or hurting, Jesus comforted them. When people made mistakes, Jesus forgave them. Jesus was patient, kind, honest, and loving in everything He did.

Upper Elementary object lessons are designed for 10-12 year olds. They offer an expanded version of the sermon with deeper explanations, discussion questions, real-world connections, and more challenging concepts.God gave us the Bible as our instruction manual - like the step-by-step guide that comes with a model kit. The Bible tells us stories about people who followed God and people who didn't, so we can learn from their choices. It gives us God's commands, like the Ten Commandments, that show us right from wrong. It also gives us promises from God that we can count on, and wisdom about how to handle friendships, family problems, and tough decisions we face every day.
Finally, God gave us prayer - and prayer is like the super-strong glue that holds everything together. When we pray, we're talking directly to God! We can ask Him for help when we're confused about what's right. We can thank Him for good things in our lives. We can tell Him about our worries and problems. Prayer helps us stay connected to God so we can keep learning to be more like Jesus.
Think about this: What would happen if you tried to build a model airplane but you ignored the picture on the box, threw away the instructions, and didn't use any glue? It would be a disaster! The same thing happens in our lives when we try to live without following Jesus's example, without reading God's Word, or without praying. But when we use all three - Jesus as our example, the Bible as our guide, and prayer as our connection to God - we can build a life that makes God proud.
Here are some questions to think about: Can you think of a time when Jesus showed love or kindness in a story you know? What's one instruction from the Bible that helps you know right from wrong? How do you feel when you pray to God? When you face a difficult choice this week, how can you use Jesus's example, God's Word, and prayer to help you decide what to do?
When we use these three things together, we can grow to be more like Jesus every day. Then, like the apostle Paul, we can be good examples for other people to follow. Paul said, "Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ." That means we can help our friends, family, and classmates learn about Jesus by watching how we live!
Dear God, we thank You for sending Your Son Jesus to be our perfect example of how You want us to live. Thank You for showing us through His life how to be kind, loving, forgiving, and obedient to You. We thank You for the Bible that gives us clear instructions on how to put all the pieces of our life together in a way that pleases You. Help us to read it and understand it better each day. And finally, we thank You for prayer - the amazing gift that lets us talk to You anytime, anywhere. Help us remember to pray when we need guidance, when we want to say thank You, and when we just want to spend time with You. Help us use Jesus's example, Your Word, and prayer to build lives that honor You and show others what it means to follow Christ. Amen.
