Scripture:
“Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the old heaven and the old earth had disappeared. And the sea was also gone. And I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven like a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. I heard a loud shout from the throne, saying, ‘Look, God’s home is now among his people! He will live with them, and they will be his people. God himself will be with them. He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever.’” Revelation 21:1-4
When you hear the word "homecoming," what pops into your head? Maybe it's your family's big Thanksgiving dinner when all your cousins come over, or perhaps it's when your older brother or sister comes home from college for the first time. Maybe you've seen movies about soldiers surprising their families when they return from being away for months. Homecoming is all about returning to the place where you belong, where you're loved, and where people have been waiting for you.
Today I want to tell you about the most amazing homecoming story you'll ever hear. It's about a boy named Colton...

Think about what Colton experienced - he didn't just hear about Heaven from Sunday School or read about it in the Bible. He actually got to see it with his own eyes! He met his great-grandfather who had died before Colton was even born. He met a sister he never knew he had, who had died before she was born. But most amazing of all, he got to sit on Jesus' lap and see the nail scars in His hands from the cross.
Colton wrote about his experience in a book called "Heaven is for Real." His story helps us understand that Heaven isn't just a nice idea - it's a real place where people who love Jesus get to go when they die.
Let's think about this together: Why do you think God allowed Colton to see Heaven and come back? Maybe it was to help us not be so scared about death, or to remind us that when Christians die, they're not really gone - they're just in a different, better place. When Colton's family was sad about loved ones who had died, they could remember that those people were happy and safe in Heaven.
Here's something really cool to think about: Colton said that in Heaven, everyone has a job to do and everyone is happy doing it. He said there are lots of colors there that we don't even have names for here on Earth. And Jesus? He has the most beautiful blue eyes and a smile that makes you feel completely loved.
Sometimes when we lose someone we love - maybe a grandparent, or even a pet - we feel really sad. That's normal and it's okay to feel that way. But if that person knew Jesus, we can have hope knowing they're experiencing the ultimate homecoming in Heaven. They're not sick anymore, they're not hurting anymore, and they're more joyful than they ever were here on Earth.
As you get older, you might have friends who ask tough questions about what happens when we die, or whether Heaven is real. Colton's story gives us confidence to share that Heaven is absolutely real, and it's more wonderful than anything we could imagine. Remember what Colton said at the end of the video: "You will like it!" That's not just his opinion - that's a promise from someone who's actually been there.
Prayer: Lord, thank You for giving Colton such an amazing gift and for letting him share it with all of us. When we feel scared about death or sad when people we love go to Heaven, help us remember Colton's words and trust that You have prepared something more beautiful than we can imagine for those who love You. Help us to live each day knowing that our real home is with You in Heaven. Amen.
