What I really needed that night was a map AND a compass! This is a compass. You've probably used GPS on a phone or in a car, but before technology, travelers used compasses like this one. The needle on the compass always points north because of the Earth's magnetic field. If a traveler knows which way north is, he can figure out all the other directions - south, east, and west. If I had only had a map and a compass that night, the map would have shown me exactly where to go and the compass would have pointed me...

Think about this: Have you ever been in a situation where you had to make a really tough choice? Maybe choosing between telling the truth when you might get in trouble, or deciding whether to stand up for someone being bullied? Life is full of these crossroads where we need direction. Just like travelers need maps and compasses, we need guidance for life's journey.
God has given us both a map and a compass for life. The Bible is our map - it shows us God's plan and the path He wants us to take. But here's something really cool: God knew that sometimes the Bible might be hard to understand, especially when we're facing difficult situations. So He gave us the Holy Spirit as our personal guide and compass. The Holy Spirit helps us understand what God's Word means and shows us how to apply it to our lives right now. That's what Jesus meant when he told his disciples, "But when the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you in all truth."
Let me ask you this: When you're reading your Bible or trying to pray, have you ever asked the Holy Spirit to help you understand what God wants you to know? The Holy Spirit isn't just for grown-ups - He's your helper too! He can help you know the difference between right and wrong, give you courage to do what's right, and help you understand God's love for you.
Oh, about my journey that night... I bet you're wondering how I ever found my way home! Well, I wandered around lost for so long that the sun began to rise. When the sun came up, I remembered that the sun always rises in the east. That was exactly the direction I needed to go, so I just followed the sun until I found my way!
Hey! You know what? That's actually a perfect picture of how we should live! When you feel lost, confused, or don't know what choice to make - when you can't figure out the map and your compass seems broken - just follow the Son... God's Son, Jesus! He said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life." When we follow Jesus, He will never lead us in the wrong direction.
Here's something to think about this week: What's one area of your life where you need God's direction right now? Maybe it's a friendship problem, a decision about activities, or even knowing how to use your talents. Remember, you have God's Word as your map, the Holy Spirit as your compass, and Jesus as your guide. You're never truly lost when you have all three!
Dear Father, thank You for giving us Your Holy Word to be our roadmap through life. Help us to read it and understand it better each day. We also thank You for sending Your Holy Spirit to be our personal guide and helper. When we're confused or don't know which way to go, remind us to ask the Holy Spirit for wisdom. Most of all, we thank You for sending Your Son Jesus to be our Savior and our perfect example of how to live. Help us follow Him every day. Amen.
