The Servant King

To be like Jesus doesn't mean to live like a king, it means to live like a servant.
Object:
A crown (I got one from an educational supply store, but you can make one from poster board.)
Scripture:
Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men. Philippians 2:5-7
Look what I have! It's a crown! Do you know what a crown is? A crown goes on your head like this. Kings and queens wear crowns!
When you wear a crown, you feel very special. You get to go first in line. You get to be the leader. Everyone thinks you are important. Crowns are shiny and pretty!
Do you want to be a king or queen? Kings and queens live in big, big houses called palaces. They have lots of toys and pretty things. People bring them yummy food. Everyone says "Yes, your majesty!" Doesn't that sound fun?

Jesus was a King, but he did something very different. Jesus took off his crown. Jesus left his big palace in heaven. Jesus came down to earth to help people.
When Jesus was here, he didn't live in a palace. He didn't have lots of money or shiny things. Instead, Jesus helped people every day. He made sick people feel better. He gave hungry people food to eat. He was a friend to everyone. Jesus loved everyone so much!
Jesus chose to be a helper instead of just being a King. Jesus wants us to be helpers too! We can help mommy and daddy. We can share our toys. We can be kind to our friends. We can help clean up. When we help others, we are being like Jesus!
Jesus, thank you for being our helper King. Help us to be good helpers too. Help us to be kind and share with others. Amen.
