Sermon Title: "Jesus, the Real Thing"

Scripture Reading:  John 6:24-35

REAL THING SCAVENGER HUNT: Hide numerous articles around a designated area. Tell children they are to hunt for the one thing that would be the greatest treasure. (The "Bible" will be the hidden item of greatest treasure.) There could be more than one Bible so that several children could a Bible. When time is up, let children discuss which of their items would be of the greatest value - the Bible. Explain that the Bible is of the greatest value because it teaches us about Jesus, THE REAL THING.

BALLOON POPPING: Each balloon for the children to POP will contain small strips of paper in the balloons with the words REAL, IS, JESUS, THE, AND THING. Have the children put the words in order to form the sentence JESUS IS THE REAL THING.

MUSICAL CHAIRS: Children can sit in a circle and play music. There should be one less chair than there is number of children. Each child that is left without a chair, will be given the letter of J, then E, then S, then U, and finally S. When all of the letters have been given out, the game is over. Have the children to arrange the letters to spell out J-E-S-U-S and explain that the WORD that they spelled is the REAL THING.

BIBLE CROSS: Give the children a square frame out of heavy card stock or craft sticks. The children will begin to wrap colorful yarn from top to bottom and then from side to side to form a cross. A small red bow can be glued to the middle of the cross. The frame can have words that JESUS IS THE REAL THING.

REAL THING CROWNS: Give the children card stock paper on which they will trace and cut out a crown. Write JESUS IS THE REAL THING on the crown and add glitter and sequins to decorate the crown as desired!

COKE CAN SLOGAN: Give each child a can of Coke and a strip of paper cut to the length to wrap around the can one time. Let the children decorate the strip of paper as desired and write JESUS IS THE REAL THING on it. After the strip is decorated, wrap the decorated strip around the can and tape the ends together.

FINGER PAINTING THE REAL THING: Provide the children with paper and finger paints to use a paint brush, Q tip or fingers to write JESUS IS THE REAL THING. Children can be shown how to make a painted border as well and hang this art work on the classroom wall.

REAL THING CIRCLE: Have the children sit in a circle to talk about REAL THINGS. The teacher can have a piece of paper with a picture or a word on each slip of paper for children to discuss if it is something that is important or something that is not very important. At the end of the discussion, reinforce the truth that Jesus is the REAL THING that is important in our life.

FLOWER PETALS: Have the children cut out flower petals and a long green stem and glue them to a piece of construction paper. On each petal, the children can write one word about JESUS that makes Him the REAL THING!

SHARE A SNACK: Give the children enough FRUIT CANDY RIBBONS to form the word JESUS and when they have spelled out J-E-S-U-S, then they can eat their fruit snack. Or children can form the words from today's lesson with cereal pieces.
