Scripture Reading: Proverbs 15:1
GENTLE WORD HIDE AND SEEK:
Have all the children hide in a designated area. Choose one child to be the "Peacemaker." As the Peacemaker finds each hidden child, they say a gentle word or phrase (e.g., "kindness," "peace," "friendship"), and escort them to the "safe zone." Continue until all children have been found.
WISE OWL CIRCLE:
Form a circle with the children and choose one child to be the "Wise Owl" in the center. The teacher secretly taps one child on the shoulder, making them the "Speaker" without others knowing. The Wise Owl must listen to each child say, "A gentle answer turns away wrath," and guess who is the Speaker. Once found, the Speaker becomes the new Wise Owl.
KINDNESS QUICK DRAW:
Divide the class into two teams. Provide each team with poster boards and markers. Instruct them to draw things that represent "gentleness" and "kindness" as quickly as possible (e.g., a smiling face, a heart, a helping hand). Award small prizes for creativity and teamwork.
FEATHER BALANCE GAME:
Give each child a feather and challenge them to balance it on their finger or hand while walking across the room. Explain how gentle and careful actions are needed to keep the feather from falling, just like using gentle words in difficult situations.
PROVERBS PICTURE CRAFT:
Give each child a printout of a peaceful scene or let older children draw their own. Provide cotton, craft paper, and markers to embellish their scene. Ask them to write "A gentle answer turns away wrath" on their artwork and add details like sunshine, flowers, etc., to symbolize peace.
ACT OUT THE PROVERB:
Let children act out scenarios where they can practice responding with gentle words. For example, a situation where someone is angry and another child helps calm them using kind words. Discuss how this reflects the teaching of Proverbs 15:1.
VERSE PUZZLE HUNT:
Write Proverbs 15:1 on puzzle pieces hidden around the room. Have children search for the pieces and work together to complete the puzzle. Once finished, recite the verse as a group. Gradually remove pieces asking if they can still remember the verse.
KIND WORD DOOR BANNER:
Create a door banner using construction paper cutouts. Include elements like hearts, doves, and speech bubbles filled with gentle words. Encourage children to add their touch by drawing or writing on the banner, symbolizing harmony and kindness.
SNACK TIME - SWEET SURPRISE:
Prepare cookies with a surprise center (like chocolate or fruit filling). Explain the surprise is like discovering the power of gentle words in the center of challenging situations. Enjoy the treats and remind each other of the sweetness of kindness.
By incorporating these activities, children can engage with the lesson through play and creativity while learning the importance of responding gently to others.
