Sermon Title: "Go in Jesus' Name"

Scripture Reading: Luke 10:1-11, 16-20

Write a poem or hymn: Split your group up and let them come up with their own poems or songs to share with the class. It doesn't have to be long - Fanny Crosby's first poem was this:

Oh, what a happy soul I am,
Although I cannot see!
I am resolved that in this world
Contented I will be.
How many blessings I enjoy
That other people don't,
To weep and sigh because I'm blind
I cannot, and I won't!

And she lived by this her whole life.

“Work” for Christ!: Have the children think of a friend, family member, neighbor or someone in the church that they would like to tell about God. Then, let them draw a picture of or write down a Bible story to share with this person. Explain to them, that by doing this, they are sharing the good news of God to others!

“God loves you!”: Play the old favorite “Good morning Mr. Judge”. Have everyone sit together in one spot in the room – facing the same direction. Pick one person to sit in a chair facing away from the group. Once the person is sitting in the chair, blindfold them so there is no peeking. Then, pick one person to be “it”. This person is going to tell the person in the chair the good news! Have “it” disguise their voice and say., “God loves you” and then sit back down. The person in the chair then tries to guess who said it. If they guess, they get to keep going, if they don’t, “it” now becomes the guesser.

The Bible says: There are many stories in the Bible about “workers” for God's kingdom. Here are some clues to some of these people – see if they can get the person after the first clue, if not, read the second, then the third. Or, after you do a few, see if they can come up with their own description for the class to guess – see if they can stump the group!

(Jonah)

1. This person was asked to go to Ninevah to tell the people about God.
2. He was scared so instead he ran away and got on a boat.
3. He was swallowed by a great fish.

(Paul)

1. You can find many stories about me in the New Testament- I wrote many of the books, but I didn’t start off loving God. I had a conversion.
2. During one of my journeys I was put in jail with my friend Silas. There was an earthquake and the gates of the prison fell apart. The jailor thought we had escaped, but when he found out we had stayed, he was converted and baptized.
3. When I converted I was walking along the road to Damascus. I was blinded. Before I converted I was known as Saul.

(Moses)

1. I led my people the Israelites out of Egypt.
2. God used me to part the Red Sea.
3. When I was born my mother put me in a basket in the Nile River to save me from the Pharoah.

(Daniel)

1. With God’s help, I was able to interpret King Nebuchadnezzar’s dream. I was promoted to chief governor over Babylon after this.
2. When I was told I couldn’t pray to my God I did it anyway…and got in trouble.
3. When I was caught praying, I was thrown into the lion’s den – but was not eaten!

(Samuel)

1. At a very young age I went to live in the temple with Eli.
2. I was a prophet, but also led the Israelite army in an attack against the Philistines. God helped the Israelites win.
3. When I was around 12 years old, I was lying in bed when I heard a voice calling my name. I thought it was Eli calling me, but it turned out to be God!

(John the Baptist)

1. The angel Gabriel told my father Zechariah that he and my mother Elizabeth were going to have a baby – which was me.
2. In the Bible (Matthew 3:4) it says that my, “clothes were made of camel’s hair, and [I] had a leather belt around [my] waist. [My] food was locusts and wild honey.”
3. I baptized Jesus.

SING A SONG: TO GOD BE THE GLORY; SAFE IN THE ARMS OF JESUS

TAKE IT WITH YOU SNACK: Before class time, the teacher will decorate an envelope for each child with stickers and markers, etc and place a candy snack inside for the child to take as they leave class. Write on the outside, AS YOU GO - DEPEND ON GOD, in bright letters.
