Work at everything you do with all your heart. Work as if you were working for the Lord. Colossians 3:23 (NIV)

How many of you have ever been stung by a bee? What does a honey bee do? Have you ever looked at a honey bee up close? The honey bee is very interesting because it has a big body and little wings. Because it has a bigger body than its wings, it has to work hard to fly. Do you know how many strokes a second a honey bee has to make itself stay up in the air? Over 200 strokes a second, which is over 12,000 a minute. They have to work really hard to just fly.

How many of you have ever observed a butterfly? They are so beautiful. But have you looked at one up close. The butterfly is opposite of the honey bee. They have smaller bodies and larger wings. Do you know how many strokes a butterfly has to take to stay in flight? They take about 5 to 12 stokes per second. So they do not have to work near as hard to stay in the air.

In our verse this morning it says that we are to work hard at everything we do. That means we need to work hard like the honey bee. Some tasks we do are easier for us like the butterfly, but other things may be hard. But just like the honey bee we can’t quit trying. God wants us to do the very best we can at all tasks.

This morning I going to give you this cute little butterfly (I found these wind up butterflies at Target, the kids LOVED them) and when you play with it this week remember that God wants us to be beautiful like a butterfly but work as hard as a bee. So this week in school or playing sports, or hanging out with your friends, remember to do YOUR best at whatever you are doing and work like the honey bee.

Dear Lord, please help us all to do our best in everything we do. Thank you for being with us always even when things get hard. Give us strength and courage to do all things. Amen
