A blackboard and chalk to write “Eternity” on.

Escritura

[Jesus said]: No one takes my life away from me. I give it up of my own free will. I have the right to give it up, and I have the right to take it back. This is what my Father has commanded me to do. (John 10:18 – GNB)

Arthur Stace, otherwise known as “Mr. Eternity”, was famous for writing the word “Eternity” with chalk, on streets in Sydney, Australia, for 35 years. (Write the word “Eternity” on the blackboard with chalk). Between 1932 and 1967, it is estimated that he wrote the word (point to the word on the blackboard) about half-a-million times! He really wanted those who saw the word to deeply contemplate eternity and all that it means.

So what does Eternity mean? (Ask for answers). Eternity means ever-lasting, forever and without-end. God has made us to be eternal. When this life ends, it is not the end of us. We will go on into eternity, and God deeply desires that we would choose to spend eternity with Him.

Easter is where the reality of this life and eternity meet. There is no other event in history of greater importance than the Crucifixion and Resurrection of Jesus in around 33 AD. As a result of these events, no longer were we separated from God. No longer were we barred from eternal life, because Jesus paid the price for our sin.

The events of the first Good Friday were no accident. Jesus was not a hapless (unlucky) victim who somehow inadvertently (accidently) got caught up in events. No, in fact Jesus said: “No one takes my life away from me. I give it up of my own free will.” (John 10:18a - GNB)

This year contemplate (think seriously about) Easter from an eternal view-point. Consider not only what Jesus did for the world, but what he did for you. Consider how he secured your own eternal safety. Take it to heart and make it personal, and accept God’s free gift of eternal life, which He offers you.

Dear LORD; Thank-you that you sent Jesus to be our Saviour by dying on the cross for us. Thank-you that Jesus did everything necessary to secure our eternal life with you. We ask this prayer, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
