Sermon Title: "Just Do It"

Scripture Reading: Luke 11:1-13

SIMON SAYS GAME: Let the children stand against a wall with one child or the teacher being "SIMON" who will tell them to perform an action. Everyone will do the action if SIMON SAYS, but if an action is said without SIMON SAYS, then the children are to remain still. Tell children JUST DO IT if Simon says! Take turns with different children being SIMON if desired and play as time allows.

JUST DO IT SIGNALS: Have the children walk around a designated area of the room watching the teacher for a signal of which side of the room that they are supposed to run to when the teacher says, "JUST DO IT." If the teacher points to the right, the teacher will say "JUST DO IT" and children will run to the right; Change signals to the middle of the room, to the left, or to the floor.

PRAYER HANDS: Give the children construction paper and markers to trace their own hands to create a shape of praying hands. Have the children write JUST DO IT on the fingers of the praying hand. Attach a pieced of yarn so that the praying hand can be hung on the wall.

BIBLE VERSE BALLOONS: Blow up some balloons up and place a part of today's Bible verse (Luke 11:9) in each balloon. The children can break the balloons and take out the piece of paper with the Bible verse on each piece and work together to put the verse in order on a poster board that will be labeled JUST DO IT!

BIBLE VERSE COMPLETION: On the chalkboard, the teacher will write three words: ASK, SEEK and KNOCK on the left side of the board. Let the children go to the board and complete the sentence ideas beside each word on the board. ASK - and it will be given to you. SEEK - and you wiLL find. KNOCK - and the door will be opened to you. If the children have trouble with this activity, you may allow them to look up Luke 11:9 in their Bible to complete the sentence.

PRAYER WALKING: Take the children to an area of the neighborhood where they could do a 15 short PRAYER WALK. Walking, praying, and singing together as a group will demonstrate to the children how they can JUST DO IT on their own. If this isn't possible, the teacher can set up an area near the classroom, that would substitute for a neighborhood and show children what a PRAYER WALK would be. Children can still pray, sing and walk together, praying for certain friends and/or family.

PRAYER ACROSTIC: Give each child a piece of colorful construction paper with P-R-A-Y-E-R written down the left side of the paper. Each child can write a word relating to prayer along side each of the PRAYER letters. Let children get in a circle and share their ideas about their own acrostic. (If children are younger, then a picture could be drawn next to each letter if possible).

PRAYER CHAIN: The children can remain in a circle after the above activity and begin the PRAYER CHAIN activity. One child will say, I PRAY FOR ________; then the next child will repeat that prayer item and then add his own I PRAY FOR_______. This will continue with each child repeating the previous prayers and adding his own prayer. If you have a large group of children, it might be easier to break down into smaller groups.

SING A SONG: WHISPER A PRAYER; SEEK YE FIRST

SHARE A SNACK: The teacher can hide snacks around the room before classtime. When it is time for the snack time, the teacher can tell the children to find a snack. JUST DO IT!! Snacks could be candy, a cupcake, or a juice cup.
