Sermon Title: "Reflecting the Light "

Scripture Reading:John 1:6-9

FLASHLIGHT RELAY:

Divide children into two teams and have them run a relay to the far side of the room or area and get a flashlight and run back to the team. Children are not allowed to turn their faces to one side or the other to view another team's player, or their team has to begin the relay over. After getting a flashlight, they will bring it back to the next team player who will then bring the flashlight back to the line and run back to the next team player. Continue to play until all of the team has run to the flashlight goal.

FLASHLIGHT HUNT:

Let children take turns going into a dark room with flashlights to search for some glow-in-the-dark stars, or other small items (even pennies). When the HUNT is over, have children take turns in reading our Bible verse today and talking about the LIGHT!

TURN TOWARD JESUS GAME:

Divide the children into two teams. Team 1 children can stand in a long line across the start line (or wall if the game is indoors). Team 2 children can weave in and out around Team 1 children as they attempt to walk to the finish line without turning their faces. They MUST keep their faces toward the finish line without looking from side to side and without letting anything come between! Switch teams to have the other part of the game and then discuss our lesson and keeping our faces turned toward Jesus without letting anything come between us and Jesus

YELLOW STAR:

Have yellow stars cut out or ready for children to cut out. Decorate with glitter or shiny paper, etc. Place a magnet on the back of the star for children to hang on the fridg. Children can write REFLECT THE LOVE OF CHRIST.

MIRROR FUN:

Give each child a very small mirror. Shine a flashlight on the mirrors and see the reflection. On the back side of their mirrors, children can tape on a small piece of paper that will say, REFLECT THE LOVE OF CHRIST.

FACE SILOUETTE:

The teacher or another leader can trace the profile of each child and let children copy that onto a black piece of construction paper and cut it out. Remind children to keep their FACES TURNED TOWARD JESUS

LIGHT QUILT:

Provide each child with a square piece of paper. Each child's square has to be the same size - such as 8 x 8 or 12 x 12. Give children paper, glitter, markers, stickers, magazine cutouts, etc. After each child has made their own LIGHT QUILT piece, the teacher will let them take turns coming to the wall or board and taping their square in place. The squares will form a light quilt. Take a picture of the children standing around their QUILT. If possible, through the coming week, make a copy of the picture to give to each child the following week! Encourage children to draw pictures on their quilt squares from today's lesson of lights, Christmas trees with lights, Jesus as the greatest Gift, etc.
