Sermon Title: "We Are the Sermon"

Scripture Reading:  John 14:15-21

FEET SERMONS ON THE WALL: The teacher will have a large number of feet cut out with rhyming words written on the feet. Scramble the feet up and have the children take turns choosing a foot and then finding another foot with a rhyming word on it. When they have found the rhyming foot, they can tape them on the wall in a walking pattern. The feet will form a walking pattern with rhyming words such as WALK IT/TALK IT; TEACH IT/PREACH IT; PRAY IT/SAY IT; LIVE IT/GIVE IT. The children will enjoy a discussion about what each foot word means in their lives!

FEET FOLLOWING: Have the children take off all their shoes and the teacher or a helper can take all the shoes and make a long path. Have the children follow the shoes to the end of the path. (Make the path create an obstacle course around the classroom. At the end of the path, children will gather in a circle to talk about FOLLOWING JESUS and obeying him!

SHOE PILE UP: Let the children take off their shoes and pile them all together. This can be run like a relay with the children divided into two teams. Each child will run up to the SHOE PILE and find their own shoes and put them on before they return to their team for the next member to do the same! When the children are done with the relay part of the game, let them discuss ways to be a SERMON in SHOES and how to FOLLOW the Lord!

SHOE BIBLE VERSE HUNT: The teacher will hide some shoes in various places in a designated area. When children find a shoe, they look for a word from the Bible verse inside the shoe and take that word back to the teacher to put the Bible verse in order on the SHOE poster board!

SERMON WORDS POSTER: Let the children decorate a piece of construction paper cut out in the shape a shoe with BE A SERMON IN SHOES written on it. The children will then write in smaller letters around the shoe with markers or crayons some words that will tell ways that they can be a sermon to others. Suggestions: generous, loving, caring, helpful, kind, trusting Jesus, sharing Jesus with everyone.

FOLLOW THE LEADER: The children will practice playing following a leader, with some BIG movements and then some small movements that children have to pay close attention to their leader in order to see and know how to follow! After everyone has had a chance to be the "leader", they can sit down and discuss how we follow OUR LEADER, Jesus Christ!

TEACHER TREATS: The teacher might like to take the children on a short "hike" following her wherever she goes and then receive a treat at the end of the hike, OR the teacher could have a short scavenger HUNT for their treats, but they will have to listen carefully and follow the teacher's directions in order to find their treats of the day! If time allows, and teacher chooses to have a more "detailed" scavenger hunt to teach this lesson in even more specific ways, the teacher can have clues (for "obedience") such as a starting place and then CLUE 1 will say to "Go to ________________" to find Clue 2. Then they'll be directed to go to another place for Clue 3, etc, until they find the TREAT TREASURE for everyone. This will lead to discussion about FOLLOWING JESUS every day for the TREASURES that HE has for those who OBEY!
