Jesus said to him, “If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes”. (Mark 9:23) NKJ

If you were sick, what would your parents do? If you just had a minor rash or a little cold they might give you some medicine from the pharmacy and hope it makes you feel better. But what if you were sicker than ever and your parents had no idea of what to do? They would most definitely make you a doctors appointment straightaway! They would follow the doctor’s orders completely and do everything they could to see you doing well again.

Today our bible lesson comes out of the book of (Mark 9:14-27) where we read about a father’s desperate desire for his son to be healed. This man’s son was most likely not a little kid any longer but had been very sick from childhood. In fact, this sickness was so bad that it had almost taken the boy’s life many times before. When the father saw Jesus he explained his son’s situation to Him and asked Jesus to help them. Jesus then said to the father, “if you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.” Immediately the father cried out and said, “Lord I believe; but help my unbelief!” [He wanted Jesus to help him to only believe and not doubt]. Shortly after this we read that Jesus healed the man’s son.

What can we learn from this story? In this story we a see father who loved his son and wanted nothing more than to have him healed of his sickness. Due to his son being sick for so long the father had trouble with truly believing that he would ever be better. It’s likely that throughout the years this man had tried plenty of things in order to stop his son’s suffering but nothing worked until he met up with Jesus. This man was very much like your parents are today. Parents know when the Aspirin, Tylenol and chicken noodle soup don’t work and you’re still sick…it’s time to get you to the doctor! Jesus was the doctor in this story. Everything God says is the TRUTH and it’s very important that we believe Him. No matter what life throws at you ; find out what God said about it and choose only to believe Him. *Keep in mind that in this story the father’s unbelief was dealt with first and the son’s healing came next. Therefore, unbelief or not trusting God could cause God’s blessings to be put ( ON HOLD ) not only in your life but in the lives of others as well. From now on you can face all your problems and troubles with confidence in what God said. Remember…”If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.”

Prayer: Dear Father God , Help us not to let our troubles determine how we feel or think. Let us always focus on Your promises and not the problem. Amen
