Sermon Title: "Born to Be King"

Scripture Reading: John 18:33-37

FOLLOWING THE KING: Divide the children into teams and let different children take turns being the KING with the KING's crown on and the other children in the team will follow their KING. The King will lead the children around obstacles or under things or can change from walking to hopping, skipping or jumping as the others follow.

DIFFERENT HATS SHOW AND TELL: Provide the children many different hats and tools and equipment as much as possible for the children to pick from and then have them sit in a circle after they have chosen their hats or have their tools in hand. Let each child pretend to do the JOB that they are dressed up to do. Take some pictures for the children to see!

CROWNS: Give children construction paper to cut out crowns to wear. Provide sequins, glitter, markers, etc as well as stars, to decorate their crowns. Write JESUS WAS BORN TO BE KING, etc on their crowns with glitter glue or gel pens.

CROWN MEMORY VERSE PLACARDS: Let children use their creativity to draw a crown on a small folded piece of construction paper that can stand on their dresser or kitchen table. The crown can be drawn on the outside and the inside of the card will have today's memory verse written out. The teacher may choose to have the memory verse typed out and copied for children to glue inside their card. The teacher might have missing words with blanks for the children to fill in. This will help the children to learn today's Bible verse.

FLIP CARD: Give the children a piece of construction paper or heavy card stock and let them draw or trace a crown on one side and another HAT on the other side. Encourage children to draw a hat that represents something that they would like to be when they grow up. On the CROWN side, let children write JESUS WAS BORN TO BE A KING and on the other side the children could write, I WANT TO BE A _________________.

KING BANNER: Provide the children with a long piece of narrow paper to write JESUS IS KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS. After decorating the banner, let the children hang the banner over their shoulder and tape to the other side of the child where the ends meet!

CROWN WALL SIGN: Roll out some long butcher paper on the classroom table. Tell the children to draw a crown and decorate around the area where they are sitting near the paper and write words from our lesson such as JESUS, KING, LORD, REIGNS, CROWN HIM as well as today's Bible verse. Display the colorful sign on the classroom wall when it is completed. The children will enjoy writing their own names on their artwork as well!

CROWN CAKE: Have a cake available for the children to frost and decorate (with sprinkes and other colored sugar, stars, etc) to make it look like a CROWN or a REGAL CAKE. After decorating, recite the Bible verse together and then enjoy some cake together. Ice cream with sprinkles always makes the cake taste better!

SING A SONG: CROWN HIM WITH MANY CROWNS (You could have children take turns reading parts of the verses alone or together. If a copy can be made of the song for each child, they could glue the copy of this song to a piece of construction paper and decorate the edges with little crown or star stickers, to take home.)
