Sermon Title: "I Want to See Jesus"
Scripture Reading: Mark 10:46-52
BLIND GAME:
One student is blindfolded while other classmates take turns giving directions to the "blind man". This will help the students to understand what being blind can be like and will ALSO show them how blind WE are too sometimes to the blessings we have all around us. Example: Teacher can let children know they can give directions such as hopping 3 times, or touching their toes, or clapping behind their backs, etc.
BLINDFOLD COLORING:
Blindfold all students and put color crayonsand paper in front of them. Have them draw a beautiful bouquet of flowers! Hang picturess on the wall!
READ OR SING A FANNY CROSBY SONG:
Have students turn to a hymn by Fanny Crosby and read or sing the words! If the song or chorus is well known; have them sing it with their eyes closed. Hymn ideas: "Blessed Assurance," "Living for Jesus," "Praise Him Praise Him," "To God be the Glory.
CHARADES of CIRCUMSTANCES
: Have students take turns at playing charades. The charade could be a tough/difficult "circumstance" that we might have to face and the class can guess what the charade is and then talk about how to be an "over-comer" of that "circumstance", like Fanny was! (Teacher could have pieces of paper with ideas for students to act out, if the student can't think of any: ex - sickness, crippled, loss of a friendship; divorce, etc)
HOW DO "YOU" SEE IT?
Teacher could have a GLASS half full (ask students if its half FULL or half EMPTY; show a picture of clouds as well as sunshine and ask what they see (cloudy day or sunny day); show picture of a rainy day and ask what they see (DREARY day or God watering the earth), etc.
WALL MURAL:
Tape a long paper (4-6 ft long) on a classroom wall. Give each child 2 markers. Blindfold each child and have them step up to the wall with the butcher paper and instruct children to draw flowers, trees, houses, cars or whatever the teacher would like drawn. Or the teacher can have each child draw something that is their favorite animal or toy, etc. Let children take off their blindfold and SEE what they have drawn.
EYES TO SEE:
Provide each child with a piece of construction paper and two large googly eyes (from craft store). Children can use block letters or some other fancy form of writing "I WANT TO SEE JESUS". Encourage children to draw small pictures of things they will see in heaven when they see JESUS!
SING A SONG:
OPEN MY EYES, O BE CAREFUL LITTLE EYES
SHARE A SNACK:
Blindfold children and let them walk from basket to basket (bowl to bowl) and let them choose 3 pieces of candy or treats without being able to see what they're choosing.
