Children's Sermon for Valentine's Day (1 John 4:7-12)
Look what I have here. (Show the Conversation Hearts candies.) These are called Conversation Hearts. We usually see them around Valentine’s Day and they each have messages of love on them. Let’s read some now. (Read a few of the candies and give one to each child.)
This week we’re celebrating Valentine’s Day! It’s a holiday where we stop to tell the people who are most important to us how much we love them. It’s also a time for us to show some special people how much we love them through our actions.
Some people give gifts like a teddy bear or chocolates. Other people do something nice like making a special dinner or going somewhere special. Many people even write love letters to their sweetheart.
Did you know that God has written a love letter to each one of you? The Bible is God’s love letter for us. The Bible tells us that God created each of us, and that He loves all of us no matter what! It doesn’t matter how many mistakes we make or that we’re sure to make bad choices along the way, God will still love us.
- Who is someone you could love no matter what?
- Is it hard to love others like God loves us?
God loves us so much that He sent His son Jesus to live and walk here on the Earth. Through Jesus, we can learn how to love others like God loves us.
1 John 4:7 says, “Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God.”
Whether it’s Valentine’s Day or a regular Tuesday, Jesus teaches us to love others because love comes from God.
Dear God, thank You for giving us the best Valentine ever—the Bible. Help us to love others just as You love us. In Jesus’ name, amen.
