Sermon Title: "Looking for a Sign"

Scripture Reading:  John 6:24-35

SIGN RACE: Divide the children into two teams. Give each team a poster board and some markers! One member from each team will run to the poster board and quickly draw one line or shape and run back to the team. The next player will come and draw another line or shape. This will continue until the entire team has had a turn. (The object is to try to create a sign.) When each team is finished, each team will try to guess what the other team's SIGN is. This will be fun and probably funny to see what SIGN is made with everyone adding lines or circles! Tell children that our story today is about a SIGN.

BREAD RELAY: Children will be divided into groups of three. Give each group the same amount of bread, rolls, or muffins and see which team can finish their "bread" first. Make sure that juice or water is available as well! Tell children to listen to the story and about the BREAD today!

BREAD BIBLE VERSE: Cut pieces of paper into the shape of loaves of bread. Print words from John 11:35 on the pieces of paper and place them around the room on the floor. Let the children recite the Bible verse together a few times. The boys can read one phrase and the girls can read another phrase. When they are familiar with the verse, let the children take turns HOPPING to the BREAD WORDS on the floor in the correct order.

LIVING BREAD: Give the children pieces of paper in the shape of loaves of bread. Let the children write words on the loaves which relate to today's lesson. (Suggested words: Jesus, Bread of Life, Heaven, Eternal Life, The True Bread, Never Hunger, Believe.) Glue the completed loaves in random order on a large piece of poster board and put it up on the wall.

FLOOR BREAD BASKET: Give the children some masking tape to tape on the floor in the shape of a large loaf of bread. Place a basket filled with small muffins, cookies, or cupcakes. Ask the children questions about today's Bible story. Each time a child answers a question correctly, they may go to the basket and get one treat. After all the children have earned a treat, let children enjoy their snack while sitting on the floor around the bread shape.

BIBLE LACING: Provide each child with black or brown construction paper for a book cover and some plain, white paper for the pages. The teacher should have punched holes along one edge of the papers so that the children can lace the pages together with yarn to create a "Bible". (The teacher may need to assist them in this.) When the children have finished creating their "Bible", have them write words or draw pictures in their "Bible" that represent what we have learned in today's lesson.

BIBLE ON A STICK: Let the children color and cut out 2 copies of a loaf of bread. Write B-I-B-L-E and draw crosses on the bread. Stuff with a a tissue and tape together. Stick a craft stick into the bottom of the Bible and tape or glue it in place. Let the children tell today's Bible story as they wave their BIBLE ON A STICK.
