Scripture

“The Lord will hear when I call to Him.” (Psalms 4:3)

I have a picture of an animal here. Who can tell me what it is? That’s right, a kangaroo. Kangaroos are found in Australia, Tasmania and New Guinea. They are large animals that move by hopping on their hind legs and using their tails for steering and balancing. They can hop at speeds up to 40-60 mph.

A daddy kangaroo is called a buck. A mommy kangaroo is called a doe and a baby kangaroo is called a joey.

Can you see this kangaroo’s large ears? Well, you guessed it! They have excellent hearing and can swivel their large ears in all directions to pick up sounds.

Let’s have a little hearing test today. If you were in trouble, and you needed to shout “help”, would you shout really loud? Let’s hear you? Can everyone hear that?

Now let’s have everyone whisper the same thing. Ready? One, two three! How was that? Could you still hear that?

How about if we just think the word “help”. Let’s see what that’s like. One the count of three, everyone think “help” as hard as you can. Ready? One, two, three. Did anyone hear that? Why not?

How do you think God’s hearing is? Do you think He could hear us when we whispered? How about when we just thought the word “help”?

What do you think was easier for God to hear – the yell or the thought?

I have some good news for you. God has better hearing than we do and even better hearing than a kangaroo! He heard us yell for help, he heard us whisper it, and he even heard us think it. All three times God could hear us just as if we’d spoken right in His ear.

Psalms 4:3 says, “The Lord will hear when I call to him.” God hears and answers our call because He cares about us.
