Sermon

He Can Hear You Now

Theme

Priorities/Pentecost

Object

A cell phone (turned off for worship time) and a small Bible.

Scripture

"All this I have spoken while still with you. But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you." John 14:25-26

What do I have here today? Do you know anybody who has a cell phone? How about a Bible? This one is little so it can be carried anywhere. Have you ever wondered what would happen if people treated Bibles like we treat cell phones?

What if we carried a Bible around in our purses or pockets? What if we flipped through it several times a day? What if we turned back to go get it if we forgot it? What if we used it to receive text messages? What if we treated it like we couldn't live without it? What if we used it when we traveled? What if we used it in case of emergency? This is something to make you think...”Hmm...where is my Bible?”

Most people I know carry their cell phones everywhere, so it is always with them. They want to always be able to talk to the people they know. I know the most important thing that can be with us everywhere is actually God. Two of the ways that we can be with Him are through praying or reading our Bibles.

Today is the day that we celebrate God sending His Holy Spirit to be with us so that we are never without God. We call this day Pentecost, or sometimes, “The Birthday of the Church.” Through His Holy Spirit, God is always with us, and we can talk to Him anytime, any place, and we will never have to worry that we will run out of minutes or be disconnected!

Let’s pray:

Dear God, Thank you for sending your Holy Spirit to be with us all of the time. Please help us to remember that we can talk to you any time and anywhere because you are always with us. AMEN!
