Children's Sermon: Mother’s Day (Proverbs 31:25-31)

Can anyone tell me what today is? (Pause for response.) It’s a very special day because it’s Mother’s Day! We all have women in our lives who are mother figures—whether it’s our mom, our bonus mom, grandmothers, aunts, and even our friends’ moms! Mothers are everywhere, and they love us unconditionally, just like Jesus does.

Did you know that the Bible has a lot to say about our mothers? Moms who try to teach their children about God—have a very special place in His heart. In fact, God says that a woman who loves Him is clothed with strength and dignity. This means she is set apart from the rest.

Proverbs 31 talks about mothers who love God like this:

“When she speaks, her words are wise,

and she gives instructions with kindness.

She carefully watches everything in her household

and suffers nothing from laziness.

Her children stand and bless her.

Her husband praises her:

‘Many women do noble things,

but you surpass them all.’ ”

Our mothers are wise and kind, and they are treasured by the Lord.

Tell about a time when your mom was kind to you.

God loves all mothers, and He wants us to love our mothers, too! He says, “Her children stand and bless her.”

What are some ways you can bless your mom this week?

We have so much to be thankful for when it comes to our moms and those who love us like mothers. God used them to bring us into the world, and He uses them every day to lead us and love us just like Him.

As we celebrate Mother's Day, let's tell Mom that we love her, but more importantly, let's remember to show her that we love her. In the same way, let's tell God we love Him today, but more importantly, let's remember to show Him we love Him through worship and by loving one another.

Thank you, God, for mothers. Thank you for their love, patience, kindness, wisdom, and their hearts for You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
