Sermon Title: "The Power Source"

Scripture Reading: Acts 2:1-21

POWER SOURCE PANTOMIME:

This activity consists of teams communicating without speaking. Each team can try to communicate a word or activity for the other team to guess what activity it is. Each team will have a turn. Explain to the children that the Holy Spirit often communicates God's will to us without speaking in audible words. In most cases, the Holy Spirit speaks to us through the words of the Scripture.

BALLOON POPPING:

Give each child a balloon to blow up but do not tie it. When all balloons are blown up to a big size, tell children to let go of their balloons and watch them fly and make noise and then become LIMP, which is like people who are NOT filled with the Holy Spirit!

KITE DAY:

Let children fly kites (Inexpensive kites are available at "dollar stores." or children can make a kite if time allows. This will lead into the lesson about the Holy Spirit and the wind that blows the kite.

PIN WHEEL ART:

Let the children create a pinwheel using this TEMPLATE. Let the children BLOW their pin wheel to make it spin, which is like the Holy Spirit that they can't see but there is a power source and the air that moves the pin wheel! If this craft is too difficult for younger children, the teacher could purchase some inexpensive pin wheels if desired.

NATURE WALK:

If there is an area where the class can take a nature walk, they could observe the wind moving the trees and flowers. Discuss with the children that we cannot see the wind, but we can feel it and see the effects of it in the movement of the trees.

POSTER POWER:

Using large cut out letters, tape the letters for HOLY SPIRIT on a poster. Let the children decorate the poster with words from today's lesson and add pictures or stickers for a more exciting poster to be remembered!

POWER SNACKS:

Provide a "Power Snack" for the children such as: Low-fat vanilla yogurt with granola cereal and dried cranberries mixed in; fruit kabobs with fresh fruit pieces on a popcicle stick; apple pieces on a toothpick to dip in caramel sauce.
