Sermon Title: "The Rich Man and Lazarus"

Scripture Reading: Luke 16:19-31

RISE UP AND FOLLOW: Everyone can scatter around a designated area in a big room. All children will sit on the floor until the teacher says to RISE UP AND FOLLOW ___________ (Child's name). THAT named child will start to walk, run, hop, skip, etc and all the children will FOLLOW until the teacher shouts out to SIT DOWN. Continue to play with other children's' names being called out to FOLLOW that child.

TICKING MUSICAL CHAIRS: Play "ticking musical chairs" in the same way that musical chairs is usually played, except instead of "music", there will be ticking like a clock (such as from a kitchen timer). When the timer stops ticking (or the teaching making a ticking sound)... the children will quickly find a chair and the child who does not have a chair will stand off to the side and make ticking sounds while the children continue to play, as the teacher directs.

ALARM CLOCK HUNT: Before class the teacher can have outlines of alarm clocks or picture of alarm clocks on pieces of paper hidden around the room. Write words from today's lesson and let children run to find the alarm clock pieces of paper and run back to the classroom table and tape the clocks on a large poster board. Children can use markers to write bright and bold letters to say, LISTEN TO GOD'S VOICE AND FOLLOW HIM BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE!

FOLLOW ME FEET: Children can trace their own feet with their shoes on and then cut the traced feet out and place on the floor in a designated area. After all the feet have been placed in a path type structure, the teacher can have the children try to FOLLOW the feet in the order they have been placed. Tell the children it's "time to wake up and follow Jesus".
LAZARUS SKIT: Give children supplies and outfits to play act this skit while the teacher narrates the story. If children are divided into two teams, each team can stand on each side of the classroom and play act at the same time. Children and teacher will enjoy watching the two teams putting on the various outfits for the parts of the skit. The teacher can pause at different times in the story to give children a chance to put on a head scarf, or to look hungry, or to have band-aids placed on the "sores", etc.

STORY ETCHINGS: Each child can be given a piece of paper and markers. As the story is being told or reviewed, children can write words on different parts of the paper that the teacher gives them such as rich man, wake up, follow, Jesus, pray, and God's voice. When the teacher is done with the story and the children have many words from the lesson written on their paper, give the children time to draw squiggly colorful lines around each word or set of words. Allow children to hang their story etchings around the classroom or on a classroom door for others to see and learn the lesson this way.

HEAVEN AND HELL ART: Children can be given supplies to draw heaven (with clouds, blue colors, cotton, etc) and hell (with reds, yellows, red and orange tissue paper to cut and crinkle to glue to paper, etc). Children can title their paper with words from today's lesson such as LISTEN TO GOD'S VOICE BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE.

LAZARUS AND RICH MAN ART: Give children many shapes and sizes of cut out construction paper that is scattered on the classroom table. Children may take perhaps 10 pieces/shapes of construction paper. THEN tell the children to do their best if shaping and forming Lazarus and the Rich Man from today's lesson and to glue onto a piece of construction paper. Children can then write a title or words from our Bible verse today around the picture, to "tell the story"!

SNACK WALK: Before class time begins, the teacher can have various snacks in bowls in another part of the building as long as they're not IN the classroom. The teacher will tell children that they can choose THREE (or teacher's choice) snacks along the way as they FOLLOW THE TEACHER! After they have 3 snacks, they will sit down at a table and let others continue to FOLLOW THE TEACHER until they have chosen 3 snacks (or more - teacher's choice). The teacher can tell the children that there are many SNACK STATIONS along the way but they won't know what snack is still coming up along the SNACK WALK, but as soon as they have 3 snacks, they are done FOLLOWING. They will want to STAY AWAKE and pay attention as they walk along.
