Sermon Title: "He Knows You by Name" Scripture Reading: John 1:43-51 |
NAME JUMPING: Let the children jump rope in various ways, single jumping or jumping in the middle while two others hold the end of a long rope. The children can keep jumping as long as they keep saying NAMES. When they can't think of a name, it becomes someone else's turn to jump! NAME CHASE: Scatter the children around a designated area and have the teacher call out a name. The children will chase the child whose name was called and continue playing until all children have a chance to have their NAME called. Another option for this game would be for the child whose name is called to be the one to chase the other children until one is caught. NAME ACROSTIC: Give the children a piece of paper and some colorful markers. Each child will write the letters of their own name down the left side of the paper using a different colored marker or crayon for each letter. They will then write one word on each letter of their name which describes themselves. Ideas could be for the color of their eyes or hair or clothes or the way they feel or what things they like to do. Read these to the children and let them know how each of us are unique but God knows our name! NAME PLATE: Provide each child a paper plate to color and draw their name in bubble letters or wide letters and decorate with stickers with adjectives to describe them in a positive way, such as A+, wow, great, etc.... These can be purchased at a dollar store very inexpensively. HEART MAN: The children will cut out a heart and write JESUS LOVES (Their name.). Give each child short narrow pieces of paper to fold back and forth accordion style and tape onto the heart to fors arms and legs. NAME BANNER: Give each child a long, narrow strip of paper to color and decorate to wear as a banner for a NAME PARADE. The children will write their name on the banner and march around the room to marching music with their banners over their shoulders. NAME POSTER: The teacher will write in large letters around the poster: JESUS KNOWS MY NAME AND HE THINKS I AM SPECIAL. The children will take turns writing their own name somewhere on the poster and draw their own version of a happy face. After everyone has signed the poster, hang it on the classroom wall. SING A SONG: JESUS LOVES ME, JESUS LOVES THE LITTLE CHILDREN SHARE A SNACK: Let the children frost a cookie using mini gel tubes to write their own name on the cookie. If the teacher desires, the children could make an extra cookie to give to someone else as they share today's Bible lesson.
