Sermon Title: "Our Spiritual Compass" Scripture Reading: John 16:12-15 |
TURN, TURN, TURN: Divide children into groups. Children can all stand facing the same direction. When the teacher or a leader calls out to TURN to a certain direction, all the children will turn. IF they turn to the wrong direction, they will run to the side lines to cheer on their team. The teacher will begin calling out the turns faster and faster to see what children can turn as directed by their GUIDE! COMPASS LINE UP: Children can line up altogether in ONE STRAIGHT LINE as a class, holding on to one another's waists. The teacher will stand away from the kids and children will move their LINE "toward" the teacher wherever he/she moves to, but the line can not break or bend. Tell the children that they're like a compass and to learn more in their lesson today. BALL GUIDING: Give each child or a team (teacher's desire and size of class) a beach ball to guide with their feet to the goal line - just as in soccer. Children cannot use their hands, but only feet to GUIDE the ball to the right area. Children will learn more about the GUIDE in our Bible story today. COMPASS GUIDE: Give children a round circle to cut out and use a brad to hold a "needle" cut-out for the compass. Children can write numbers or words from our lesson today as well - such as the WAY, the TRUTH, the LIFE, etc. SPIRITUAL COMPASS: Let class take turns filling in ideas or tracing the teacher's words on a large poster-board-size circle! On the edges of the very large circle, write words from our lesson such as "doing what others are doing";trusting God; believing others; feelings, etc. Children can then take turns moving the cut out "needle" to one of the words and asking the class if this one is Holy Spirit "guided" or not. BIBLE GUIDE: Give children supplies to cut out a Bible shape out of black construction paper. Cut another Bible shape out of a lighter color and a little smaller and glue to the black Bible cut out. Use bright colored markers and let children write today's Bible verse, the prayer for today, or other special words from our lesson today to POINT and GUIDE the children to the WAY, THE TRUTH AND THE LIFE!! HAND GUIDING: Provide children supplies to draw their hand on a piece of construction paper. Cut the hand out and glue onto a bright colored piece of paper. Write GUIDES on each finger of the hand, that the Holy Spirit gives us from our lesson today such as truth, trust, God's love, understanding, etc. HOLY SPIRIT ACROSTIC: (OR GUIDE ACROSTIC, if desired to have a shorter one); Write the letters down the left side of a large poster board or a chalk board. Let children suggest words to write on the board to tell about today's lesson about the Holy Spirit GUIDING us. SING A SONG: LEAD ME, LORD SNACK TIME: Let children spin the needle of a compass and receive the snack where the needle points to. The teacher can have 10-12 different snacks that the children will spin for or could have duplicate snacks on the compass. Song: "Lead Me, Lord" Words and Music (pdf)MP3 Accompaniment Track |
